WHAT DO YOU HAVE? IS WORTH SOMETHING.

APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE

This is one of the most touching Proverb that I have ever read, it is a Persia Proverb I first saw and heard about it on the television show, It  is funny I said to myself:
"I was crying because I didn't have any shoes to put on my feet and I was too poor to buy any, later as I walk down the street I met a man without feet..."
The moral of this proverb simply tell us that no matter what we have we must appreciate what we have because we can always have less.  At the beginning I stop to think of people in Belize and places that I had visited and their condition of living . Many time we as human never realise what we have until we lose it, many might argue if you are rich you lose many thing without realising it including family and friends, however there is still misery in their hearts.

It was for lunch one day, my mother had just finished cooking traditional Rice and beans Belizean style with the potato salad and fried plantain as usual my plate would have the leg of the chicken, that day I ask for a little more than usual. I thought I would be able to eat everything, soon I became full but still continued, I didn't why? I didn't stop. At that instant I began to cry, In my mind and heart the spirit of guilt and shame  infiltrated quickly. Many people in the world are dying of hunger every second and here I was wasting food moreover abusing of it, then sense of suicide  ambush my soul, I remember the picture I downloaded about months before, its posted on the side of this page. Then i realise that I was worthless human being that was not grateful for what he had. The person that loved life and people's well being was a fake, I smile and was always happy to make other happy were did that person go?

The next day I tried my best to help and support my friends, the sense of guilt was still present, I decide to talk to a teacher, and I ask him " do you why God permits many people to died for not having food? " at that moment i blame God, as many of us do, we fine a solution to our mistake by blaming God or other. The teacher answer " God doesn't have the fault of this but he does have the solution, it is us that fail to seek him.

Our friend play an important part of our life, but sometime we act or say things in such a way that we even terminate that great friendship, today on facebook I read a past student status it said " When someone is so sweet to you, Don't expect that they'll be like that  All the time... Because even the sweetest chocolate, Also EXPIRES"  I smiled and thought to myself, am I sure I am not that chocolate in the sentence? The following days after that incident with the food, I began to imply changes in my style of living I was more grateful of simple things and mindful of others. However, the philosophy of human nature doesn't allow us to be mindful of everyone, as the following quote suggests " enemies we know how to forgive them, but we never forget their names" sometime we mean to help and do good for others but deep down inside we are not humble enough to let go the past.

On my visit to Veracruz Mexico, I met a little girl that had nothing in her house but a simple bed and a table with some pots and containers but  no chairs, yet because I was a visitor wanted me to have a candy. In my mind " how is it that this child not having anything still gives to last she has to a stranger?" In return I smiled and took her to the store and bought her an apple, she said thanks ran to share with her little brother. My heart was moved and began to think of the innocence of this little child and how it compare to the society we are living in today. I posted a picture of her on the side of this post. So my dear friends, lets think twice when we do things, we never know what they person has or doesn't have. Is our life something worth of? Are the things we have are they worth something? At the end of the day appreciate everything you have and everyone around you because we could always lose them.

In conclusion ill share with you an African Proverb.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must out run the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you better start running."
Lets us do our part in society.

How your body works Part 1

Digestion

Principle of Biology
is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy.

The digestive system
The digestive system is mainly a long tube that runs from the mouth to the anus. This tube is called the gut or alimentary canal. The alimentary canal is associated with the organs of the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas.

Digestion: Digestion is the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food.

Food: is any solid, semi-solid, liquid which is broken down in the body to produce energy (ATP), nutrients, stimulate growth, and maintain life.
There are two forms of digestion:
1)      Physical digestion – this involves the mechanical process of chewing or mastication of food in the mouth and the churning due to backwards motion of the stomach
2)      Chemical digestion- this is the use of enzymes to break down the food into smaller particles that can be readily absorbed into the body.

Digestion in the mouth
-          Digestion begins in the mouth
-          This process begins with ingestion which is the placing of food in the mouth.
-          We use our teeth to bite, slice and grind food into smaller pieces.
-          Food is mix with saliva which contains enzyme called salivary amylase
-          Salivary amylase breaks down the starch chemically into simpler sugar such as maltose and glucose.
-          The tongue rolls the food into a ball called bolus, which is swallowed
-          The bolus enters the oesophagus and is push downward by peristalsis
-          Peristalsis which is a wave-like motion cause by contraction and relaxation of circular muscles in the wall of the alimentary canal The bolus is pushed down to the stomach

Swallowing
In leaving the mouth a bolus of food must cross the respiratory tract (trachea is anterior to oesophagus) by a complicated mechanism known as swallowing or
deglutition which empties the mouth and ensures that food does not enter the windpipe.

Swallowing involves co-ordinate activity of tongue, soft palate, pharynx and oesophagus. The first phase is voluntary, food being forced into the pharynx by the tongue. After this the process is reflex. The tongue blocks the mouth, soft palate closes off the nose and the larynx rises so that the epiglottis closes off the trachea. Food thus moves into the pharynx and onwards by peristalsis aided by gravity. The esophagus is like a stretchy pipe that's about 10 inches (25 centimeters) long. It moves food from the back of your throat to your stomach.

Digestion in the stomach

The stomach is like a mixer, churning and mashing together all the bolus into smaller pieces. The stomach has muscular wall that is lined with many gastric glands. These glands secrete gastric juices and a small amount of hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid kills most contaminating microorganisms and begins break down of some food, and chemical alteration of some. The hydrochloric acid has a low pH, which allows enzymes to work more efficiently. After some time (typically an hour or two in humans) , the resulting thick liquid is called chyme.

The gastric juices contain an enzyme, pepsin, which breaks protein in the food into smaller units called polypeptides. Pepsin works best in an acidic medium hence reason for HCl acid. The chyme is then passed from the stomach into the small intestine a little at a time. This process is regulated by a ring of muscle located at the base of the stomach called the pyloric sphincter.

Digestion in the small intestine
The small intestine is a long that has three parts: the Duodenum, Jejunum, and Ileum; this tube that's about 1½ inches to 2 inches (about 3.5 to 5 cm) around, and it's packed inside you beneath your stomach. If you stretched out an adult's small intestine, it would be about 22 feet long (6.7 meters). Unlike the stomach, the small intestine is alkaline since digestive juices released here cannot function under acidic conditions. As chyme enters the duodenum, pancreatic juices is secreted from the pancreas and bile release from the liver into the duodenum.
Pancreatic juice contains three enzymes:
1.      Trysin – this continues digestion of protein into polypeptides and also into even smaller units called amino acids
2.      Pancreatic amylase- this continues the digestion of starch which began in the mouth. Any starch that is still present is digested to maltose and glucose.
3.      Lipase – this begins the digestion of fats and oils into smaller units called fatty acid and glycerol.

The bile from the liver is very alkaline and so it neutralizes the chyme. By the time the food reaches the ileum, most of the complex food substances have been broken down into very small particles. Enzymes released in the ileum complete the digestion process: The enzymes include maltase, lactase and sucrose.
Vitamins, minerals, and water in the food do not need to be broken down. In the ileum the process of absorption begins. The walls of the ileum are covered by finger- like projections called villi. The villi increase the surface area for absorption
Nutrients are absorbed easily because each villus is only one cell thick. Inside the villus is a network of many blood vessels and a central lymph vessel called the lacteal which transport fats to the liver.

The liver
This functions as a storage house for digested products and the conversion of excess products
1)      Excess glucose is converted to glycogen
2)      Minerals, need to make blood, as well as vitamin A,B and D, are stored until need
3)      Excess amino acids are converted into useful substance. The left of molecules are converted into urea to be excreted.

Large intestine:
Digestion and absorption have finished by the time the food bolus reaches the large intestine. All that is left is undigested food, including fibre or roughage, and some water. As this mixture pass along the colon, water is absorbed leaving behind a solid waste called faeces. This is stored in the rectum until it is eliminated or egested from the body via the anus. This process is called defecation.

This is a summary of Digestion in the Human Body. I tought this when I was teaching hopesfully this information can be use full. remember If used please remember to state reference http://pedrogarciaedubz.blogspot.com for this and many other topics.

Not every time things turn out your way.

3 Trees

once there were three trees on the top of a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, ‘‘someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty."      Then the second tree said, ''Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull.'' Finally the third tree said, ''I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the Hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close I am to Them . I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me.''

After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of
woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tree he said, ''This looks like a strong tree, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter'', and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest. AT the second tree the woodsman said, ''This looks like a strong tree. I should be able to sell it to the shipyard.'' The second tree was happy because he knew he was on his way to becoming a mighty ship. When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would never come true. However, the Woodsmen said, ''I don't need anything special from this tree, I will still take it down,'' and he cut it down.

When the first tree arrived at the carpenters, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in a barn and filled with hay. This was not what he had prayed for, why was this happening. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces, and left alone in the dark. The years went by, and the trees had long forgot about their
dreams.

Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn because they didn't have any place to stay. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this
manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time, his dream had come true.

Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and He stood and said 'Peace' and the Storm stopped. At this time, the tree knew that it had carried the
King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it. Now today people look up to the cross his dreams finally came true.

The moral of this story is that when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan for you. Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. youth of today don't understand why certain things happen and question sometimes why things occur not knowing that its a plan design a long time ago.

Put an end to SEXUAL VIOLENCE

End of sexual violence

Ladies and gentle man : For many years we have heard a loud cry. Who might be crying you might ask? Women, children, youth and sometimes men but for what reason should that be? Could it be because of unemployment, racism, no food, no education, maybe this is true nevertheless, a greater problem is affecting our society and it is known as Sexual violence! This issue must be addressed today, we must be informed, and we must enforce and give support to end this madness. Let us gain that courage, that motivation and willingness to bring down sexual violence and bring up this magnificent country of Belize.
In the society we are living in almost every day we listen in the 7news  or channel 5 (News5) that some young lady is raped or some child is being abuse or some woman is being force to have sex against her will , which sometimes leads to brutal violence or even murder to these individuals. Many cases have been registered but yet they are many cases that are not being reported because of fear or indifference! Many Belizean as they hear that someone was raped they would say “hmm she me deserves da” or even “good fu she” let us stop this indifference, sexual violence just as death we will  not know when it can face us. We must break the silences and help our fallen brothers and sisters with our voices  we will end this nightmare. Children are being abuse sexually and we can’t stop this? Women are being rape and kill and this has not caused us to do something as yet? This is the reality it is not a dream, this is the Belize we are living in, but as I strongly believe we can make a difference!

A single ant can’t build its home all alone, however if more than one ant work together as one they will build their house. The same concept applies we must work together as one, so that the "undertaker" could come for sexual violence and take it to the cemetery. We must address this crisis from its root; the youth of today must be educated and must make an initiative and promise to not be involved in the actions of sexual violence toward any child or young lady. Don’t get me wrong not only because you are getting an education you exempted to commit these wrong doings “I know of individuals with a master's degree abusing sexually of children and even doctorate degree rapist. When young lady is sexual abused, the person who is doing to damage is not only causing physical  harm to her but also to you and me. "Let us make our contribution which will make a resolution, with your participation it will strength to nation.  With our combination it will help the population". (Pedro Garcia December 15, 2012 Speech completion Belize) Remember I am Belize, you are Belize, and we are Belize!!!
I call on the Government of Belize and head of state, to fund programs and form new committees to address the terrible beast, the new serpent know as sexual violence. There is a demand for more workshops for young people so that they can speak out, because many are afraid to speak due to lack of knowledge and communication skills. People must be educated; they must know their human rights and must break to cycle. I strongly recommend that penalties for such offences must be punished with death.  I believe that a rehabilitation programs must be instituted for victims of such abuse to aid in psychological and physical effects. We must also do our part by reporting what we see, please help the person in need. Keep in mind that Belize is one body so if one part is attack the entire body feels.
In conclusion, the end of sexual violence all depends on the citizens of the country of Belize, we have to make the storm cease, but we must act fast and steady with intelligence and unity. We are a people of change; it is not difficult and not impossible. We have to power in our hands the youth of today are full of energy, motivation and ideas. Let us make a solution for this dilemma. When is the time you might ask? Is it next year? Next month? Tomorrow? Certainly not! Now! Is the answer lets us join forces and end sexual violence today!!!

Gender Battle

Men Vs women
Anytime anyone is about to give birth the first question is "Is it a boy or a girl?" People ask this question because there is a difference between both genders. Several are curious to know whether the baby will turn out to be a sweet loving young lady or a strong working young man.
Women are known as the more delicate and weaker human being of the two sexes. They are so full of innocence and others full of pleasant features. Over the years women have been treated very noxiously and with sigma moreover with prejudice. However,  continuous flexible action and interactions  have made them achieved the admiration they deserve. It is a fact that women in the past have been offer inadequate chance of becoming someone in society. Despite the past today women are having the total control over most works in many industries all over the world, In the scientific world females have more dense neutron some regions of the brain . They have proved males wrong who think that they are superior than females.
Men the most dominate and powerful being on the earth they are the greater sex. During the transition of time men have obviously been the ones to be superior and more intelligent. However, this has been changing as we can safely say that no one is better than the other  but all are equal in spite of social class or race. They have always been thought of as the person to bring food and money to their family but  men have also earn the right to be  role models, teachers, inverters, philosophers just to mention a few. Men have been awarded 545 out of the 557 Nobel prizes for science. They dominate the world today as we know it.

On the other hand men and women are similar in many things. Even in our community we can see that our mayors, doctors and managers are females. Is there any Job that women can not do? I think not. Men’s brains are 10-12% bigger than women's  but this has nothing to do with intelligence. The reason why is that men need more neurons to control their greater muscle mass and larger body size. Men and women are different yet similar in aspects. Either it be their occupation, personality or even educational status, I strongly believe that every one is equal. we must not discriminate men nor women just because of certain jobs, colour or education all want respect so we must always try to treat everyone with great respect and admiration to be successful individuals in society. In conclusion which is the better sex? none both are capable of doing things hence both make a great tag team

Back home 2009

My return to Corozal

The love you make is equal to the love you take. I had just arrived from San Pedro were I had graduated with honors and awards from San Pedro high school. I was thinking of my life during that time, this occurred the 22nd of Augusts 2009 at a Master guide camp.

At the camp I began talking and interacting with many new people who were about to change the course of my life; back in San Pedro town I was far away from God and I was feeling as if the Holy Spirit did not abide in me anymore, However He was very generous and compassionate with me, always helping me in my studies; my grades which were excellent, my reputation in society which was most respectable and health . I was one of the most influential and admirable student at the school. I was serving as a role model for many; nevertheless, profoundly and subconsciously inside I knew that my life was not right in the way that I really wanted it to be. I made everyone to believe that I was always happy because of my character, personality and the big smile that I would always share with everyone until now.

At the camp I met a very wonderful, marvelous and beautiful young lady, which for me was love at first sight as I looked at her; later when realizing and analyzing the situation I found it to be infatuation only; nevertheless she had  great influence in  my life at that point in time. We had been seeing ourselves for over the past three days. We did enjoy being with each other, during  which  we would speak about  life and past experiences . My spiritual life was being watered and fertilized because of  the young lady. I believe that the Holy Spirit was using her to strengthen my life for me to continue in the faith. On Thursday night and Friday night I was learning more of how to be more like what Christ wanted me to be, I felt that my Christian life was at it's climax because of all the activities and love that i was feelling . The 25th August 2009 was the day that I got re-baptize together with the young lady, that day was the one of the happiest days of my life. After the camp I became very active because I was full of life and energy. That immense feeling that I once had in the pass had come back me! The purpose of my life was transparent and limpid which was to help and making other feel happy and to smile.

The powers of the Holy Spirit worked in my life and cleanse me, for that reason I am still faithful until now, because if it was only by my will I would have gave up. A merry heart is like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones; therefore my bones were about to be dried up, thanks to God for the camp and the young lady He worked a miracle in my life.

Our Emotions

Emotions

The development in human beings
Definition of Emotions
Emotion is a term frequently and familiarly used as synonymous with feeling.
In psychology it signifies a reaction involving certain physiological changes, such as an accelerated or retarded pulse rate, the diminished or increased activities of certain glands, or a change in body temperature, which stimulate the individual, or some component part of his or her body, to further activity.
The three primary reactions of this type are anger, love, and fear, which occur either as an immediate response to external stimuli or are the result of an indirect subjective process, such as memory, association, or introspection(the detailed mental examination of your own feelings, thoughts, and motives)
Importance
The importance of social relationships to the regulation of emotion is a topic that interests developmental scientists across the life course.
A baby depends on caregivers to manage his or her distress, and children learn to manage emotions by seeking assistance and talking about their feelings with trusted adults.
Adolescents rely on their peers for emotional understanding, and adults maintain emotional well-being through supportive friendships, especially in later life.

The sequential development of emotions
During the first three to four months:
An infant has what we might call “emotion reflexes,” registering surprise , joy, distress, and excitement without learning.
However fear is not a “emotion reflexes”

Between the age of 4 to 10 months:
Fear and anger appears
The second year:
Sadness, anxiety, and affection or tenderness.
By age 4 :
Children show guilt and shame; Indicating the sense of self is developing.
By age 5:
Children display pride, humility, envy, and jealously ; These indicate great “ self- awareness”
By age 6 or 7 :
Children express emotion that indicate a judgement of self in comparison with qualities that others possess.
i.e. They exhibit feelings about relative abilities, attractiveness, honesty, bravery, dominance, and popularity.
By puberty :
Children can express the entire range of an emotion requiring abstract thought is a feeling of sympathy toward a group that one does not know.
